Double Bass Endpin Materials Experiment

Hey all,

After reading a few posts on the influence of endpin materials on the sound of the DB, I decided to order a few tubes/rods from aliexpress and try them out.
I expected the difference to be greater, but there is a slight difference nonetheless. I noticed aluminium and carbon fiber (the lightest 2) seem to allow the bass to resonate more freely, the lower mids seemed clearer. Brass seems the punchier of the bunch. YMMV

12mm thick (2mm thick walls on the tubes) and about 50cm long (I think a bit shorter might have avoided some buzzing in some notes)

Since I recorded it to compare them, I thought I'd share the experiment.

Well, if you’re an orchestral player who plays in a traditional concert hall, and your endpin sits in a divot on the wood floor, a question of concern might be “which endpin material transfers the most vibration to the wood floor?” This is part of the bass section’s sound. This applies to arco and pizz.
