ok guys, this is my first ever recording.

here's the story: for an english project, we have to make a soundtrack to T.S. Elliot's famous poem "The Waste Land". So I wrote and recorded my own song.

consists of: bass (rythm and lead parts). This is the only instrument you'll hear, as it is the only instrument I own.

and..

vocals: I recorded me reciting key stanzas in the poem.

yeah yeah, I know, the vocals sound terrible, the only microphone in the house was a 10 year old $5 computer mike.

also: I realize that my voice isn't that epic sounding, but Leonidas was on holiday ;)

I know the recording is a bit rough in spots, but I'm new at this. Please tell me what you think of the song.

I really like the vocals. They give the song a kind of quirky "fitter happier" type vibe. It's almost like thoughts in the back of your mind or an old radio left on in a run down abandoned house. If they were distinct it probably wouldn't of worked. Could of done with being slightly more in the back I think though.

Very nice piece.

FUNK SOLO!!! lol. very nice job. what did you use to record this masterpiece?

HA! I was wondering who would be the first to catch that..

I used my Carvin IC5,plugged into an Ibanez DE7 echo/delay pedal, plugged into an Ibanez SW65 (65 watt combo), into my computer (M-Audio sound card).

I used a free-ware program called Audacity to record it. It's a pretty simple program, ya pretty much just hit record and start playing, no fancy loops or anything.

I love it! The whole piece really works well, and I wish I could play like that.
Agreed to the "fitter happier" comment - the vocals really work well as the kind of distorted in-the-back kind of vibe.

How did it go? What grade did you get?

I turn it in tomorrow, along with a written report and finished album art.

since tomorrow is the end of our poetry unit, my teacher is holding a "poetry jam", where students can recite pieces of their own. I'm bringing my bass to lay down some grooves for people to read to, s'gonna be fun!

yeah, my english teacher is HUGE on music

in case anyone asks, I've been playing for 6 years.

the first half or so sounded a lot like Opeth, it was really cool.

My first instinct was to say you should compress and bring up the vocals a bit, but as i think about it....leave it.

Your voice is actually kind of creepy. I like what that mic did to your voice.

Also, nice on the "FUNK SOLO!"
