Enjoying music through terrible speakers

I must be in some sort of minority here.

The better the speakers, well, the better obviously, and I'd agree the built in speaker a phone sucks. But, it doesn't bother me all that much to hear music on a small radio or boombox that has no boom, no bass. I play that part in my head anyway.

Know how you can hum to yourself and hear it resonate through your bones and from the inside of your skull, rather than out the mouth and then in the ear?....that's what I do, (natural bass singer here too).

If it's something I haven't heard to the bass line to before, I just make up my own.

What does bug the hell out of me though is hearing bad speakers loudly. I'm the one at home telling everybody to turn down that damn tv/radio/whatever. If it's at a low level that'll mix with the humming in my head, I'm alright with it.

Remember this: Unless your music is entirely sonic, your arrnagements will need to be heard over a range of speakers. NOT mixing on a crappy mono speaker means that your music will probably suck coming out of an iPhone or bargain bluetooth speaker or YouTube video.

The result? Might not get listened to again and again as quickly...might not get the same people out to a last minute show.

If you can hear all of the parts audibly through a cheap mono mix then all is golden: Sweeten to your hearts' content.

This +1000

When we were doing originals, making records, etc., we'd listen to it on the crappiest stuff we could find. If it didn't get the point across there, you weren't done.

I think most people that listen to music on their phone without headphones are doing it mostly for attention. Every time I see it happening its usually a teenaged boy in a random metal band tee shirt and he is walking around with some random metal spewing out of his terrible phone speaker. I think they are usually trying to show society how much of a rebel badass they are, by showing us squares the badass metal they listen to.

For me it has to be good quality. I dont even like listening to youtube videos through tha aux jack in my truck because the sound quality is always bad. I still buy CD's for this reason.

That is one of the most annoying things. I've seen this in a college cafeteria as well.
