I'm really stoked to get it and try it out. I just keep reading all this great stuff about it. Very cool little pedal.

Im really diggin it so far, very cool. Most were right when they said it adds something to your tone thats hard to explain but you can tell its there. I tried it first with the internal dip set to +3db but soon figured out that was too much, I already have more than enough boost going on in my chain to have an extra 3db on top of all that. I have yet to try the other "vintage" setting so I probably will tonight or over the weekend. I am about to overhaul my board again and I'll probably start it tonight. I love overhauling my board. My back hates it, but my mind and basses love it! I would rather spend a Fri night at home alone overhauling my board (especially with the kind of week Ive been having at work) than to do anything else. But so far, I am really lovin what the EP boost is bringing to the table. Very nice and powerful, crisp yet growly boost. Yummy.

Hey guys,

Just wanted to give a little update. I recorded last night at a buddy's home studio using an m-audio interface into an iMac running Cubase. I ran my EP Booster set at zero and it really warmed up the tone. I still can't explain what it does except to say that it makes your tone come alive. My buddy said it added a subtle compression so I'll take his word for it. Anyway, don't hesitate to try recording with the EP Booster. I'm really happy with it.

I've had a chance to play around with my newly-acquired EP booster. Really liking it so far.

I got it with the intent of putting it near the front of my chain to push my drive pedals harder. However, I discovered that it's true calling (at least for me) is at the end of my signal chain, after reverb. I'm using it as a pre-amp straight into the poweramp of my Markbass 12" combo. I like the Markbass for having a lot of power is a small and lightweight package (hooray for NYC apartments), but I don't like the pre. Well, problem solved! I'm actually happier with this than I was with either my BBDI or Tone Hammer. I have the treble boost off, and have it set somewhere between 10 and 2, depending on how beefy I want things.

The other nice thing for me is that I just turn it off when I'm running into my Amplug for headphone use, and I now get the pretty close same tones through my amp and through headphones. With anything else I tried, I could never replicate what I was getting through the Amplug when going to my amp. I have a little optimizing to do, but I expect I should be able to get there with a little fiddling around.

How does it compare to Phat Phuk B? I'm a huge fan of boost pedals for my passive bass and PPB is the best boost pedal I've ever tried, I never turn it off. Just wondering the tonal difference between those 2. I'm guessing PPB is dirtier if you want it that way?

AFAIK, Clinch FX makes the best EP > having seen and read many an online poll. I own a CLinch, but Í haven't tried using the Xotic or others to be fair.

Another boost I would seriously consider (having owned one of them too) is the MI Audio booster > seriously flexible as far as clean or dirty boosts go, especially if you're a multi-instrumentalist.

(NOTE: I flipped the patch between the tuner and booster and spaced them better so now it looks better too) anyway, note the type petals (except for the Ditto they're all straight forward sound shaping petals) and note the audio chain flow. IE: I can use my Xotic EP booster in conjunction with my Xotic SP compressor - controlling the input drive gives me better control of the compressor and thus more out selection results. Or I can just use it as a solo or backing booster too.

I still like it. I usually only run 4-6 pedals so I don't always have it on my board but I kinda miss it when I don't. I like to use it as a general boost but also to kinda warm up a class D head and make it feel more tube-like. I like how simple it is. I don't want another eq stage in my chain I just want some gain and a little color & it delivers.
