EQ pedals....

Hey

I have just finished a tour with my band, during which my soundman had problems with the low mids coming from my rig (an orange ad200 4x10 and 1x15). He came onstage at one soundcheck and fiddled with the eq, and noticed that the band widths of each tone control was very narrow and suggested that I get an eq pedal to put before the head to really get the best sound... as i wasn't too great with the sound either....

so yeah im looking for an eq pedal - the obvious option is the boss, but i was wondering if there was any others out there I should check out?

What about the aguilar tone hammer?

it might be better to get a graphic eq like the boss if you want to control your eq specifically in different frequencies.
you will be able to control your low mids, high mids, etc etc more specifically with a multi-band graphic eq

BYOC has a 10 band EQ kit that's worth looking into.

The aguilar tone hammer would be a good choice- it has mid frequency select so you could find those pesky low mids and cut them, and it' a DI too.

I have a Linden and although its a great tone shaper, the one thing it does not do is the low mid thing as a specific boost. Want the plushest of pillowy bottom end: this is your pedal. Want some high end glass? Want less high end glass? This is your pedal. For low mid boost with control, you need to look into a parametric equalizer. Then you can pick the specific frequency, pick the range that will be in the eq curve and cut or boost to your hearts content. Lot of options for this kind of effect: search wisely.

mxr seems a better option to me as they have more detailed eq's available on a larger pedal as aposed to whatever would fit on a tiny boss.

also i'm not huge on boss as a general rule.

John East makes an outboard EQ pedal called the STMP-01 with sweepable mids. You can also turn the mids on and off, and there's an XLR output and bright switch. If they are too expensive you might be able to find one used. Highly recommended!

If your amp is rack mounted, you could also throw a 31-band graphic EQ in the effects loop. That would give you PLENTY of control.

Also, Boss makes (or made) a dual pedal called the EQ-20, I believe. It was a 10-band EQ with footswitchable presets.

There's a Boss Parametric Bass EQ in the classifieds, never seen one before so they're pretty rare. Looks good though!

haha 31 bands would be excessive i think... yeah i can remember taht eq pedal might check it out.... going to send some of these pedals over to my soundtech to have a look at them

I have the MXR 10 band eq, and the aguilar tone hammer, with both of these engaged i can get any tone i want, alone they are great, together even better.

i had a boss bass eq and it was awesome.

The eq-20 has many many presets.

MXR is a fave of many pedalboards

BYOC is bound to be the boutique favourite. more tweakability on the inside.

Its small but i bet it'll do the trick. Are you looking into just a small floor unit or a rack unit?
