EQ Settings

Hello,
I'm having some difficulties finding out the "right tone" for me, as far as equalisation is concerned. I know the kind of tone I like, but every time I just seem to fool around with the knobs on my bass and amp, wasting mine and the band's rehearsal time.

Now, there two tones I'm fond of; Slap and trombone.
I know slap growl is achieved through boosting tremble and bass (say around 7 or 8) and reducing mids (say around 2-3).
The "trombone" tone though still eludes me.
Is there a particular EQ setting I should try?
My bass has an active/passive switch, mine is set mostly to active, so I'm interested mainly in bass EQ, not the amp's.
Any advice is welcome
Thanx
