Double Bass Ergo Megathread part I

I stopped off at the local drum shop and once again came home with more hardware for a stand. The bass is playing quite well at this point and I will probably play around with the bridge position a little to even out the response. ( that is pretty good so far ). I don't know if a pre amp will do much to improve the sound. The pickups that come with the bass have a pretty hot signal.
The volume of the Ergo is blowing away my Palatino upright with a rev solo P/U.
All I can say is wow.

Hey guys... I just found something cool. We'd all heard about the Neet longbow cases which are a perfect fit for the Ergo. Well, they also make a takedown bow case that fits the stand perfectly and the two match. Here's a couple pics.

The Neet item# is NK-135, and the item is listed on [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. Like the NK-164 (longbow case) it comes it brown or black. I bought mine from an outfit named Freddie Bear Sports. They didn't have them in stock but they ordered one for me. I had to wait several weeks for it to show up. I would imagine Neet dealers all over the country should sell this model though.
I have just about finished a hard case for my ergo 4 string.
I used leftover plywood and pine and I picked up a piano hinge and cabinet locks from the local Menards. I used an exercise mat that fits well with a little trimming.
I will post some pics of this once it is all ready.

I had some shipping problems & he did everything he could to take care of the problem. He has been responsive to every question I had & has been very pleasent to deal with.
Also, I've been playing the bass & have enjoyed it quite a bit. I've received all kinds of compliments about the tone & look of the bass from musicians & non-musicians alike.
As for whether it is the same tone as an DB, it is not, but it has a nice tone of it's own & has complimented the music that I do. It's a keeper for me.

From what Jesse told me, he's making an 8 for himself, and one other guy...mine would make it 3 (hoping to place the order this week), so I don't think there actually is an 8 in existance yet

I don't like chrome, especially against a dark finish so I asked Jesse
for something darker for the tuners. I'm going to play around with stand hardware & have whatever I choose powder coated black

It looks beautiful. I am going to have to have one! I am surprised at how easy my 7 string was to adapt to. I just took it to Chicago. I used it on a gig and I did not miss my double bass at all. I borrowed a nice double bass for gig and recording the day before, and I was actually happier playing the Ergo.
I should be getting an ERGO this week to learn some bluegrass bass.There are 2 used amps I will look at locally here.Gallien-Krueger backline 115,Trace Elliot Tab100 combo.I know to let my ears and wallet decide but I just wanted some opinions from those with more experience....Thanks
I've been using a GK backline 10" 70 watt combo ( til it fried ) and now an older SWR 12" 100 watt combo. Both amps sound good and I'm getting a tad more DB sound out of the SWR at this time.
I normally use a hot rodded Palatino VE 500 with a preamp. The Ergo 4/5 I picked up awhile back has such hot pickups I don't need the preamp.
Something to keep in mind for anyone swapping out the stock strings is that regular DB strings need more clearance from the fingerboard and the bridge is pretty easy to shim. I ended up using 4 strips of old Kay spruce ply to get the height I needed.

I am really loving my ergo 6 ,running it through a EA iAmp 350 w/ 2 EA 10's and a Bag End 15.
It takes a bit of pickup and bridge tweaking, and you have to be careful in transporting it , because one bridge bump can ruin your sound and you have to tweak again.
Ergo's neck is at one level all the way from nut to bridge. I was wondering about the fact that the bridge has to be higher than other basses because there is no recessed area under the strings at the plucking point. It makes the bass less playable as you pass the 14th fret and upward.
Has anyone thought of routering a small area under the plucking point, so the bridge could be lowered more and your right hand fingers could still dig in without hitting the neck/body? This would better enable playing higher on the neck. Would this create problems of buzzing and muting on the lower frets?
Any ideas?

The action on mine is nearly like my double bass, I find it playable from top to bottom, nearly all the way up to the bridge.
It is not very low, I like to dig in when I play pizz, otherwise it just sounds like bass guitar.
It is natural for it to get higher as you get near the end of the finger board. On double bass you play pizz on the fingerboard anyway, so the ergo is no different.
