Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats

Tried the Colbalt flats recently on my Stingray. At first, I thought my string search was over. They are bright for flats and have a nice punchy midrange. No clank. After awhile, I started to miss the tone and feel of rounds and put D'addario XL 170's back on. I might not have given the Cobalts enough of a chance and may try them again in the future. They are a unique string and I can see why people like them.

I decided to give the Cobalt flats a go- long story short I have LaBella’s on my Thunderbird but wanted something a little livelier on my Jazz Bass. Have tried Rotosound 77’s, Fender Flats and Chrome Flats (the chrome flats I did. Not. Like. At. All!)

a few days in; I rather like them. They have a tone I usually don’t like, but they are a nice feeling string. They are bright but not zingy, and plenty flexible for some expressive bends.

it’s nice to have a set for something brighter and a deep vintage sounding set. Choices!

I just bought set after reading a review about the Yamaha TRBX604 The OP said he was about to return it until he tried a couple of things, including the cobalt flats. Night and today he says… I want to check it out.

I have the cobalts on my TBRX504, and they have provided a very consistent, even, and somewhat thicker sound than previous strings. The TRBX series seems string-sensitive, and these are the best so far after trying GHS and Fender flats.

Agree. My TRBX504 sound better on both EB 2814 and NYXL 45-100.
I have the 2816 on trbx504 currently with C standard tuning. The B string sound clean ,clear and tight.

I put a set of these on my Ibanez Portamento and love the sound, and the funny thing is I hate flats. They are nice and bright with a good midrange fundamental and nice mmwahhh.
