Can anyone tell me the difference between the Ernie Ball strings for a bass? What's your favorite type? I haven't tried EB's on my bass yet but on my guitar I like em super slinky. Easier to bend.

Ernie Ball types of bass strings

Basically they have:
Slinkys, which are nickel round.
Coated Slinkys, which are..uhh...coated Slinkys.
Cobalts, which are...cobalt rounds. A little brighter and punchier than nickel.
Steels, which are...you guessed it...steel rounds.
Flatwounds which sound dull and thuddy.
I never liked EB strings until they came out with the Cobalts. I've had them in heavy use for about 3 weeks, which is about 3 weeks longer than Slinky's last.

I like the Power Slinkies (.110 set) for my at-home 4 string but yeah they really do wear out pretty quick which is a shame. They sound great when new.
I like Slinky's once they break in, but not fresh. Too tinny and metallic sounding.
The Cobalts are a winner though. I'm enjoying them very much.
My opinion on EB strings is go Cobalt or go DR.

I don't like their tinny sound when fresh either. Not to worry though, after a few plucks they'll be broken in... a few more than that and they'll be dead. No more tinny sound.

Can't agree to the "dead" part of this statement. I've been playing a set of Super Slinkies on my P-Bass for at least 10 months now. They broke in quickly and have indeed lost most of the high end they hardly ever had. But they are far from dead.
Great sustain, with a creamy, smooth low mid growl. I'd love to try some flats on this bass, but as long as these cheap nickel rounds don't break, they'll stay.
On the other hand, I liked all my roundwounds best when they were what others would call "dead". Pethaps I'm just weird.
