Hi all, long time lurker, usual DIY'er capable of some things techy, but I've never replaced pickups or preamps/EQs. Years ago, I received an ESP LTD F-155DX for a graduation present. Previously, I'd dabbled in bass but never played much, but I really started to dig it after receiving that bass. Recently, it was stolen along with some other stuff out of my apartment, and I've heard nothing about it for a couple months now. I've thought about buying a new one with some savings to keep the nostalgia, but ESP changed the pickups/preamp in the current model of the same name (used to be active ESP pickups and EQ, now it's passive ESP DESIGNED pups and active EQ and it sounds like crap).
How hard would it be to change out the pups out to an EMG 40DC set? And is there an option for an EMG preamp/3 band EQ? The bass would have bass/mid/treble/volume/pup blend knobs to begin with, but all I can find are 3 band EQ's with bass/treble on a concentric knob, mids on another, pup blend, and volume. Should I get this and install a dummy knob to fill the hole?
If someone has a recommendation of different pups/EQ, I'm all ears.
