Essentials for a tour?

Many great things have been mentioned. I'll add...

Clothespins + duct tape to keep the curtains closed and the light out while sleeping in a hotel.
Patience and a sense of humor. There can be a lot of hurry up and wait that is out of your control.

for meeee.... I divide my touring trips as being before or after learning about fish oil supplements, the tours after learning about fish oil, like high DHA salmon or something...being So much better Digestion wise, the whole cycle improved...and Vit C & D. Instead of fabeeze which smells artificial, I used citrus essential oils, lemon & orange... and speaking of women, it isn't easy when you're zipping out of town that night, but Residencies, 3 night, one week stands are the way to go. If you can.

Let me address the Women (ahhh...Women!)factor here: (If I may:D)

Now I, myself, actually found that it is:

1) Easier & more readily accomplished to ummm, "make friends" if you're "zipping out of town that night"

Please refer to a section of "Fear of Flying" (a feminist Novel by Erica Jong several years back) called "The Zipless ****
That should clarify. Maybe.

See, the impetus for a Female admirerer ...cuddling... with a studly Bass Player (as we are here) is that tomorrow he will be:
GONE!
ADIOS!
He's OUTTA here!

No dates, no follow-up calls, no personal long-term involvements- You're out, and you and she are free to resume life as usual, without those silly commitment issues and such. On to the next stop!
Conversely, if you were to stick around---even for a couple days...It may get old.

(BTW, I'm in a long-term relationship w/ my Singer, so my touring days preceded all this sage advice.)

Please take all of this with a grain or two of salt, and remember:

IMHO, YMMV, feel free to agree to disagree.:roflmao::smug::D

It's finally a small world again. The guy is almost from my home town! (speaking of mr. Bill Burr, folks) The other day he was talking about seeing Miles at Lennies on the Turnpike, and my father drove my friends and I there, in a blizzard, to see Dizzy Gillespie, and Dizzy told a joke, he stated, "we are fortunate to have Joe Frasier himself in attendance tonight, a round of applause for Mr Frasier, stand up Joe... ...Oh, I'm terribly sorry madam...."

Major T. J. "King" Kong:

Survival kit contents check. In them you'll find: one forty-five caliber automatic; two boxes of ammunition; four days' concentrated emergency rations; one drug issue containing antibiotics, morphine, vitamin pills, pep pills, sleeping pills, tranquilizer pills; one miniature combination Russian phrase book and Bible; one hundred dollars in rubles; one hundred dollars in gold; nine packs of chewing gum; one issue of prophylactics; three lipsticks; three pair of nylon stockings.

... Shoot, a fella' could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that stuff.

Well, all that gear just might get you through the High-Rollers Bingo room out here in the Mojave...

I have to say, that where some these particular tours are headed and organized...
Foot-stink powder, 3-day underwear, Beef jerky, Fungus creme... Ugh.
I just might prefer to stay home sweet home!

Tons of good advice in this thread. Let me just emphasize a couple.

1) Always have a bottle of water with you that you refill whenever possible. Air Conditioning and heat and sweating onstage all take water out of you, and you literally should be drinking water as often as humanly possible.

2) As a guy who literally almost died from a pulmonary embolism, please get up and walk around as much as you can. I had no factors that would increase the risk, so it can hit anybody. Get up, walk around, at least a minute or two per hour even if you have to stop your vehicle once or twice on the way to each stop.

If you're traveling by van, make sure it has an inflated spare, functioning jack, tire iron, jumper cables, tow rope.

Food: I have a rule whenever I go on any kind of trip, to make sure I can supply myself with some kind of fresh fruits and vegetables to balance whatever crap I'm likely to eat at restaurants etc. Hotels (that I can afford) always seem to be located in places where there are no food stores. So I keep an eye out for a supermarket along the way. I've also learned that a lot of slightly more upscale supermarkets have a complete buffet where you can get good stuff like a great big salad, and it's usually fresh and much more healthy than fast food. But if you're traveling with people who like to eat crap food, it's hard to be the one person who wants to eat healthy.

Exercise: Just get out and take a walk whenever possible.
