i would like to convert from an upright db to a eub....
i play mostly in a classical/semi classical orchestral setting

mostly arco

any recommendations of a eub that would do the job....

No advice except you'd better include the number of dollars you will want to spend.

There is an eub forum over on the db side. You should look over there. I have an NS NXT4 that I play pizzi, bluegrass, gypsy jazz, jazz, etc. The NXT is a decent instrument for the price, a decent well made instrument. It is solid body which does affect the tone greatly but is very easily transported (a plus for me). The Eminence gets alot of love, well made, hollow body but a higher price.

$4k will buy you alot of eub. Like a db, be aware of if a preamp is needed for impedance matching and also the more eq options the better and what that will cost. Also, IMHO they benefit from a better quality hi fi type speaker cab. Gollihur Music is also a very good resource for eub (and db) info.
