Double Bass Eurosonic Whites verses Helicore Hybrids or ?

Going through all the Bluegrass threads for string recommendations. Love my Eurosonic whites but considering Helicores hybI’d . ( mostly because the Luthier has a set )

I’ve got the Euros on my Shen three-quarter SB 80 and I love them. But I have a Czech-Ease that I often use for playing with smaller ensembles but this strings are really old and need to be changed.
I do bluegrass and jazz, but might want to someday learn to bow. And I guess the Euros aren’t good for that?? Wondering how the Helicores would compare to the Euros ? Or if there are any other recommendations?

I had eurosonic white mediums on a bass for quite a few years, first as the whole set and then over D and G gut strings from Damien. I thought they sounded great and were fun to play on.

Changed over to helicore hybrids on that same bass because I wanted to play with the bow and wasn’t thrilled with them. Every bass is different and the were fine with the bow but didn’t really have the sound I wanted for roots/bluegrass. I think the Zyex would have been a better fit for me but there are all kinds of people getting all kinds of results from different strings out there

Edited to add that I am playing a different bass now but have a Perpetual E over Belcanto A, D, and G and I think it is a nice combo for me on bluegrass, gypsy jazz, and roots-y jazz stuff. Easy to get a nice sound arco and the decay is about right for me. Belcanto pizz doesn’t cut as well as straight Perpetuals playing with a drummer and multiple horns but that is when I’d typically use a small combo amp anyway

The Perpetuals look like a good choice but are a bit pricey $267 this review says the D and G didn’t cut but they have addressed it Perpetual Upright Bass Strings and Belcantos are $356 Belcanto Upright Bass Strings

I got the heavier gauge G on my Perpetuals and though they were fine, similar to spiros that have been played in for a while.

The Ddario strings are a good value and bass strings in general are kind of expensive. Maybe look around the classified and find a lightly used set of something interesting?

Or just get spirocores over guts and you’ll never have to change them again
