Ever break a string?

Yes, playing since 1989 and have broken (2) strings both of which happened in 1994. First one was the A string halfway through a set. A few shows later was the D string after bashing my bass into the mic stand (purposefully, playing in a alt rock/metal band at the time) and where the stand hit the string actually nicked it in two at the fifth fret AND caused a pretty good gouge in the rosewood board. Ah the memories...

Yep 1-E string and 2-G strings......in a matter of 3 months.....I was using D'****o's and switched to G*S and Never had a problem...
Was in the 4th song of a 10 song set.....was tough without E string...and lucky bass ACTUALLY stayed in tune enough to finish the song.

I've broken plenty of strings, and different ones at that, but not for a long time- maybe ten years. And only twice at gigs. Let's see, one of the times was the high C on my six string bass, which wasn't a big deal, but the bass definitely felt strange without it, and the other time was the G string. It happened in the first year that I was gigging and freaked! I didn't know the fingerboard well enough to adapt and even if I did I was too green to stay relaxed and calmly work my way through it. Hilarious. (There's not really a Smilie that's shaking its head and laughing under a smirk, but that's what I'm doing right now)

Never while playing, but I do remember one of the first times I changed my strings...

I'm trying to tune up the A-string, and the pitch isn't changing a bit. About the time I'm thinking to myself "this is strange, what's going on with this stupid thing?" -- POP!!!

Umm, why is the D-string all floppy all the sudden?

I broke an 'E' string at a show once. I was shocked when it happened. we only had 1 song left, so I sneakily just downtuned the 'A' string to 'E' and used that for the one song and play everything on that string. Was not what I wanted, but I didn't have a backup and it wasn't worth re-stringing for one song.

I used to bring two basses to gigs, but I haven't for a couple of years now. My backup has been neglected and needs a little work, but I'm planning on going with two basses for the weekend after the upcoming one. Small chance for this weekend.

I guess that I've been lucky lately, string, because I haven't broken one in some time, and I bend the $%!# out of 'em.

Used to happen to me when I was underpowered and my instincts at the time were to play harder to get heard. Broke a few A and E strings at the bridge. Took me a while to learn how to play more relaxed. Haven't broken one in probably 10 years now.

Had a real problem breaking D strings playing Crossroads. Something about the aggression and pulling on the strings always seems to put it over the edge and have to reign it in

Less issues since switching to TI rounds, which keep the motivation to behave seeing the replacement costs

One nite we were the support band for DRI. We partied very hard. I play with my fingers. We did a song called "where was I" BAM I break my E string, I barrow a bass from DRI and BAM I break the E string. This turns into a long story but two E strings in 10 minutes....not a good nite. It was fun though...
