The death of Ramsey Lewis got me thinking about the Maurice White connection, and that to this song. Less than two minutes of perfectly executed straight ahead Jazz by EWF.
Maurice and Verdine both spent time in the Ramsey Lewis band. Ramsey Lewis made a lots of great music, lots. I pulled out a stack of records yesterday that will keep me busy.
The early EW&F albums were killer, even the deep cuts. A very young Verdin swinging his butt off, great stuff.
The stuff that Verdine White played on or before Gratitude was incredible. After that, he was still good, but his playing became much more safe.
Just saw ewf this summer with the missus and they sounded and played great. Verdine had a sadowsky it it sounded on point..
