I have my amp set to 8 ohms. if i plug cab up that is 8 ohm into speaker jack and then another 8 ohm cab into the ext. speaker jack, is this still an 8 ohm load?

ext. speaker and ohm load?

Parallel is a speaker cable from each cab, ran to your amp.
Some amps don't have dual speaker output jacks.
(This is were the series method comes in handy.)
Series is one speaker cable from the amp to cab #1 input,
and then (another cable) ran from cab#1 out, to cab #2 input.
Both methods will yield a total load of a 4 ohms at the amp.
(with 2 - 8ohm cabs)
