I've been trying extension cabs by disconnecting the internal speaker and using this adapter ...

Is it safe to continue using it, or should I just put a switch on the negative lead of the original wire to disconnect the internal speaker, and use the external speaker jack on the amp instead ?

Here is a pic of the external jack on the amp. The blue wire is the one coming from the internal speaker. I'm assuming the external jack is wired parallel with the internal ?

What speaker do you have that uses an RCA plug? Some home stereo type speaker? Something's not right here. The link you posted is just an adapter, not something that's going to cut the juice to one output and let it go to another. You need to check the ohm ratings of your speakers, if you're doing it right you should be able to run both from 1/4" cables and not dip the ohms too low. If you can only run one at a time you need to take the internal speaker completely out of the line when you plug in your ext. cab. ie. run either/or but not both.

It's an old tube combo amp. The top pic is the power amp output. It's a phono jack. I just unplug it and plug the adapter in.

I guess my question is, will that particular adapter handle wattage ? Heat is the concern.
