So I just ordered a set of these for my TRB6P:

Of course, it says perfectly balanced, but my question is do they mean volume or string tension?

It doesnt seem like these gauges would balance perfectly based on any of the available string tension charts (Daddario, Thomastik, Kalium, etc).

Alternately, does anyone know of anything like Kalium's balanced strings, but with tapered/exposed cores?

Lots of things go into string tension and making a string; the diameter is merely the end result.

I thought Kalium strings WERE tapered?

Depending, you can use our tension chart (that I worked on myself) and make a balanced set with either Contact Core Super Steels (exposed core, what I switched to after Kalium) or Progressives (exposed on the E and B strings).

I've noticed that most strings that say balanced are odd gauges.
Maybe F just wants people to think their F basses are nicely balanced, which I don't believe.
The F bass body is beautiful IMO, but the headstock should be slightly smaller, also IMO!

True, but outside of a handful of sets from a few manufactures, most bass string sets are all weird with super high tension D & A strings and super floppy B & E Strings. An actual tension balanced set of strings is the exception rather than the norm.

Only the stuff in the low B range, 120 or so and higher? Something along those lines. The F-Bass strings are completely exposed on all 6 strings:

I wasn't aware GHS made their tension available! I had considered your Contact Core stuff, but Bass Strings Online (my usual place of purchase) didn't have anything below .060.

edit: I guess the smallest exposed core string IS .060. Hm. Might try a self-built set on my other 6er.

They must've changed that, because when I used to use them, they were tapered from the A string on.

Yeah, anything below .060 is usually just our regular Super Steel. The G and C strings really don't benefit that much from the exposed core.

I just checked my Bolt-On TRB which has the Kalium set that's 31-142 (That bass is tuned ADGCFBb), and the .106 (D) is tapered, too, but the 4th string (.079) isn't. We can split the difference on that one LOL

Yeah, I was trying to get a balanced tension set in the mid 33-35 lbs/string range, and for the D would I'd like like a .055 or.058 or somewhere around that (not a regular Super Steel string in that range either), and the options for an A string either get you 26 lbs or 39 lbs. Oh well.
