Face to Face Cab sale

I'm not sure where to post this, but since it's related to a cab I'm selling I thought it would be best to start here.

I'm arranging a sale of one of my cabs with a tb'er. It will be a local pick up and we will be meeting face to face. This is the first time I'm doing this and I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on the safest way to do this.

I'm most concerned about payment methods. Would it be best to request payment first via Paypal or is it better to do in person?

Thanks and if this is better to be posted in a different thread please direct me.

Bring a tall friend, preferably with tattoos and facial scars, to "help wrangle" the cab into your vehicle. Also, lift with your knees, not your back and wear sensible footwear. Most of all, try to have fun.

Ok the first sentence is half serious. Bring a friend.

I've never sold gear for anything other than cash. If the buyer was insistent on paypal or something like that, I'd wait and make sure that the transaction completed before meeting to deliver the goods.

If you're nervous, I'd suggest meeting somewhere in public ... personally, I've never had a problem with buyers coming to my home - completely understandable either way, though. If it's something they want to test out before they make the purchase, your options for a public meet-up are greatly reduced.

Whenever I buy or sell I insist on cash on delivery. I never ship out or ship in. This has a lot of restrictions but also lots of benefits.

Whenever I've sold amps I've always got the buyer over to my place. I make them use the amp in front of me. You're now pretty covered from "Oh when turned up, but it doesn't work".

When I'm buying it goes the other way. I like to prove to the seller that I'm not going to pull a shifty. Also if you pick something up from someone's house and you later find that it's being held together with chewing gum, well you have a door to knock on.

Additionally I like to meet people. Sounds a bit dorky but bad luck hey. I like to know that the axe I'm selling is going to a cat who's going to play it. That makes me feel better you know. I bought an archtop the other month and I went round to the guy's house because he lived right round the corner. We ended up having a half-hour chat about out instruments. It was really fun.

Also, cash is king.

Or, in case you're nervous about a stranger visiting (knowing) your home, which is quite understandable, you can always trade in one of your local music store (of coffee shop for that matter and if you don't live in Amsterdam) if you know them very well. I've found that these guys often don't mind helping if you're already a customer.

Cash by a police station....

I've done f2f sales and trades and haven't had a problem. I've also traded items across country here on TB and must say, nothing but good clean business; that's why I buy and sell here.

If someone is a lying sh*tbag, they can undo a paypal payment, by saying they never got the goods, and you won't have a delivery confirmation to back you up. Even a Gift Payment can be rescinded by going through their credit card company and saying they didn't authorize the charge. So, yeah, cash is actually safer. If you are going to drive a ways, you could ask for $20 or so by paypal just to cover your gas in case they don't show.
