Factory Fretless Bass from the 70-80's

i'm looking at a fretless Ibanez Musican from 1980. Does anyone know if these basses came from the factory fretless? it seems that factory or special order fretless are kinda hard to find from that period.

Sting, during his Police tenure, favored a fretless Ibby Musician. For the two first Police albums he still used a stock fretless precision, then the illusive Ibanez before switching to fretless Spector NS, Steinberger, and Van Zalinge EUB. And his ultimate return to a (fretted) early fifties P...what a journey!

Just saw this thread. I can't really find when this bass was made but I got it new from a GC in the early '90's.
The serial number is inconsistent with any info I've found,
It is a great player.

I think he used a fretted P on the first album.
