The folks who plumbed my house sure did.I'm a plumber. You better hope that I don't fail.
Sometimes false bravado winds up in an unexpected "Holy crap! I actually did it!" It's sort of the "Hold my beer" of self pep talks. Results may vary.
Failure is always an option. As a scientist, failure can teach us more than success.
I think we can all agree that when doing something illegal, failing is the best option.
The thing is, though, she didn't start out that way. She had a dream about what could be done, and unrealistic expectations, then she talked a lot of people into believing that it could be done and that she was the person to make it happen.I think we can all agree that when doing something illegal, failing is the best option.
She ignored everyone who told her it couldn't be done. At some point that drive to succeed turned into something more akin to "I have to make this happen, no matter what the cost." At that point, she started lying to everyone rather than admit she was in over her head with a vision that wasn't tenable. Somewhere in there this all morphed from a person with a bold vision to a person committing criminal acts, but where that line was crossed is not so clear.

I think we can all agree that when doing something illegal, failing is the best option.
Except for things where the failure scenario is the reason why the thing is illegal in the first place!
I think that is what passes for public policy debate these days...
That and "nuh-uh, you are".
Is it a new house or was it repair work? I have seen gross incompetency in both fields , sad to say. The results can range from frustrating to downright dangerous. With the reduction in the number of trade school and proper training , it is really hard to attract good people into the trades these days. If there's anything that I might be able to help with or advise , feel free to post it or PM me.
It was new when we bought it 20 years ago. Apparently they used glue made from recycled PVC or something.
My brother bought a new house about the same time as yours. They were doing some really weird things back then. Within 10 years , he had to replace one whole side of his house from rotting wood where the "new , improved" caulking had leaked like a sieve. Water infiltrated around all the windows on that side of the house. He had the rest of the house re caulked at the same time and hasn't had any more problems. They were also using particle board as flooring and if it rained on it during construction , the stuff would de-laminate. This was also about the time that they started using polybutaline pipe in plumbing systems. I can't tell you how many houses needed to be re-piped because of that stuff. It started blowing up after about ten years. A few years back they were using fairly toxic Chinese drywall. High levels of formaldehyde in it. Not too long after I got into the trades , some idiots approved "Olin"copper water pipe. It was a real light gauge copper pipe that was pinhole city in under ten years. Fortunately , the companies I was working for at the time never used it. I know of at least one plumbing co. that went out of business due to having to replace that stuff in
houses they built with it.
These days , it's CPVC and Pex plastic piping they are using for water supply lines. I personally am not a fan of anything plastic being under pressure for water supply lines. The jury is still out on the Pex stuff as it's pretty new. As far as CPVC pipe ,you should read the warnings on the glue cans used to glue that stuff together. It includes three of the worst known carcinogens on the planet.

Yeah, but I'd like to think of "inevitable" as "in a good long while" - not "right this minute"...
