Fake Modulus Quantum 5 on Reverb?

I'll be first in line the day they start selling cheap, Chinese carbon-necked basses!
Did you buy that one TB? I used to call the one that was on sale here the Storm Trooper Modulus!
Cause china. Counterfeits R us.

Many of the Chibsons are made in the Epiphone plants.
The fakery is rampant.
Clothing, tools, auto replacement parts, electronics, iPhones, you name it.

No, I’ve owned this one since 2000 and yes, it goes very well with the stormtrooper costume!
It's funny how bad these "knockoffs" are getting. Honestly, they must be this bad on purpose to avoid getting in serious legal trouble. You can put the name on it, but if it barely resembles the genuine article, it's probably falling under "parody law" or something.
Problem is, some people are too stupid to do even the slightest bit of homework when it comes to things like this.
The question is, in this day and age, with the entire world of information available in everyone's pocket or on their desktop, how bad can you feel for someone who isn't even bothering to do the most basic of searches?
Yeah, I've seen some really good fakes in the past. But more recently, the laughable fakes are taking over. This hilariously awful Modulus is one of those laughable ones by a country mile.
- The logo is terrible on the neck tenon
- Pickups aren't EMG or Bart, but are also the 45 size, which is wrong for a Q5 anyway
- Bridge is just garbage compared to what actually comes on these
- Knob placement is WAY off
- Awful, awful, AWFUL job on the veneer top
- Body shape isn't close at all
- Bridge placement is so far off, I'd be amazed if this is in tune at all, ever
Oh yeah... and the COMPLETE AND UTTER LACK OF A GRAPHITE NECK is also a slight giveaway.
I'm glad Reverb stopped this listing. That's good of them. If my company were responsible for selling authentic instruments and my reputation was on the line, I wouldn't just "suspend" the listing. I'd remove the fake that is listed and punish the poster... but that's me.
Again, if the guy who bought it and is trying to resell it actually believes it's real, do you feel sorry for them? They have a computer, as evidenced by the posting of this bass. They could have done their homework and almost instantly seen this to be fake. If they are that foolish, how much sympathy can be mustered for them?
More likely, they are being malicious... which is terrible. Either way, there's no sympathy from me personally.

i believe the two words that carry the most weight is "trademark infringement".
as long as individuals avoid peddling "fake" goods in volume that attracts the attention of the primary maker/manufacturer, they can stay under the radar and steer clear of legal entanglements.
i have family from asia who mention seeing "niko" shoes with a reverse swoosh or "addidis" shorts and shirts with the adidas logo slightly altered.
i guess counterfeiters figure large corporations can't put out every fire and sue the hundreds (if not thousands) of counterfeit makers in play.
as for small manufacturers like modulus graphite that don't have the big-time legal teams, they can probably submit some kind of "cease and desist" order. but if one counterfeiter is stopped, who's to halt production of the next counterfeiter who changes the name slightly to "nodulus" and changes the color of the bass from green to purple?
from the consumer's point of view, it will always be "caveat emptor". counterfeiting will never go away (too much money to be made) so, just keep your head on a swivel and make noise here if you see any more "fradulus" basses on the interwebs so none of our fellow bassists get swindled.

The best we can do is to simply not buy these counterfeits. As long as there is a market for them they will stay in business. There are people who have bought these, reviewed them, posted videos, and then destroyed them stating that they want to be sure they are never resold on the second hand market as if they are the real thing. Buying them in the first place defeats the purpose. Do we really need a review of them knowing they are going to be inferior?
If you want the real thing buy the real thing. No doubt if it sounds too good to be true it is! These counterfeit manufacturers will hire children to do the work and will run out of very small shops 24/7 to keep up with demand. Don't give in to temptation or curiosity. There are enough quality used basses out there that you are much betting off buying. You may not end up with a Modulus or a Sadowsky or a Fender or an Ernie Ball or whatever you are looking for but it will still be better than one of these counterfeits.

Have you ever had a machine head crap out, lose a knob, or had a pot fail and then call the manufacturer? You send them a pick of the instrument and a pic of the serial number and they send you a replacement part free of charge. They continue to innovate and integrate new technology into the instruments and manufacturing techniques to improve quality control. This is why we pay the money we pay and it is well worth it!
