Anyone familiar with Famous #351 bass strings? I found a new set in my big box of strings tonight... believe they came with a used bass I grabbed years ago.

I need to do a string change tonight and was thinking of throwing them on... unless I hear they're complete trash. :D

I thought the same -- not so famous after all! :roflmao:

The strings went on last night... and so far, so good. They sound and feel decent. I believe they're made in China. And the silks are a nice magenta color, which is a first for me! :smug:

Never heard of this brand. Famous #351 isn't so famous, I suppose... ;)

Since you already have them in your stock, why don't you go ahead and try them, and let us know how you like them?

Would you be able to post a couple of pics of those strings? One at the headstock (for the magenta silk) and one at the bridge end, including the ball ends if possible. It might come in handy for ID'ing them for someone else down the road. ;)

A chrome color on the ball ends.

And yeah, I hear ya on the numerals on the measurements. I suppose the folks at Famous #351 should follow D'Addario and Rotosound and drop the decimal point.

But I won't hold it against them -- I got a free pick! :hyper:

Thanks for the pics! Are the ball ends themselves the generic brass-colored ones?

The package says ".45-105". ".45" is almost half an inch thick; it should be ".045". It's either "45-105" (no decimal) or ".045-.105". :D (Yes, I'm being picky.)

Bass strings named after a pick... Interesting... ;):D
Yes, especially since many bass players, myself included, use the rounded triangle 346 heavy for bass, and not the 351. Here is how seldom I use a pick: when a music store went out of business about twenty years ago, they sold me their stock of 346 heavy's, about a gross. I still have most of them left in my gig box!
