Ok, some of you may remember my last post on an aesthetic choice of white vs black tolex on potential Hiwatt cabs. I've made a decision on that issue, and now I have an ACTUAL IMPORTANT question :D

Fane vs. Celestion...

I don't know much about either, and Fane doesn't even have a website...comments on the companies? Their speakers (these will be 4x10 cabs so...10" speakers :p).

Thanks in advance for the help!

Ok, I've answered this question too. Let's change the focus of the thread...

Can anyone tell me about the Reeves quality vs NEW Hiwatt quality? Guitarists seem to favor Reeves heavily, but I want the opinion of musicians who matter ;)

Steve Reeves always played a superior Superman, and when battling Lex Luthor he was usually in top form. But I never approved of any of the Lois Lanes especially. I guess it was the film standards of the day.

Godzilla always had better press than Mothra, especially once Blue Oyster Cult got involved.

Thanks guys. I mean, your posts are funny and all (I guess) but I would have liked my question answered to some extent...or at least taken seriously, as I have no experience in this stuff myself.

Thanks for at least contributing something.

The top amp/box manufacturers in uk during 60/70's used either Goodwin or Celestion,
Goodwins beeing rather expensive,Cellestions rather louder.Fane at this period were considered bottom line, but had some interesting options(size/wattage)but still farted out when played loud.Fane what with no web site and...Celestions,now thats music history.

Close but no cigar! :) It's Goodmans. Fane were indeed what we in the day called the lowest/cheapest speakers. Fanes also insisted on using a cast chassis that had non standard mounting flanges. Celestion, who also made speakers for VOX, became the speaker of choice after Marshall adopted them. We also had Wharfdale, more of a HI FI company but their 15s did turn up in bass cabinets from time to time, and Tannoy.

Thanks Paul for putting me right.Yeah it was of course Goodmans, had them in my first rig. Selmer T&B 50+Selmer goliath 1x18 +Selmer AP 100 4x12,that beast was awsome for the mid 60's.
