Faux binding question

I'm doing an instrument which requires white faux binding. I sprayed, thought I used the correct material, but still had some bleed.

Any tips?

Did you seal up the wood first? You need to get the wood fully sealed and smoothed out with clear base coats (or tinted color coats) before masking and painting sharp contrasting edges like that. Otherwise, the paint will bleed under the tape, as you found out.

Good to know. You think I could touch it up by hand?

Not sure if this is any help but 3M thin line vinyl tape for car pinstriping works better for masking than anything else I have used.

I used that 1/8" pinstripe tape.

I might try to see if I can touch it up, and light wet sand. If it looks good, I will proceed to clear.

Bruce nailed it. Always make sure the wood is sealed, grain filled, and has a gloss before taping to get a crisp paint line.

You can also spray one light coat of clear on the masking tape after you apply it. That way the clear will bleed under the tape if it's going to and seal it for when you shoot the color.

That is completely genius. I will try that
