Favorite Gig Bags?

Gator Transit has worked great for my 34"/32" scale basses:

This TKL Vectra model seems similarly great for my 30" basses & guitars:
TKL Vectra® IPX™ Electric Guitar Impact-X™ Case

Either seems to have functionally equivalent shock/impact protection, a bit more durable outer shell fabric, & a bit better layout for the storage/accessory pockets than the Mono M80 bag I've got for guitars for me. The zippers don't seem quite as heavy duty, but that being said I've had no issues w/ them on the Gator or TKL bags to date.

No, they sit underneath the straps. Lift the strap, and you’ll see that the strap is riveted as well as sewn to the back of the bag.

I see what you’re saying, and that’s correct for the top of the strap. It’s just that my strap ripped at the bottom on the Gator case, and there’s no rivet on my Mono at the bottom of the strap. So no advantage in that particular mounting location, from what I can see.

It’s true that there’s no rivet at this location on the Mono, but as it’s not one of the major stress points it isn’t really needed, IMHO. In spite of several year’s use there has been no hint of failure or even significant wear in this spot on any of my Mono bags, which kind of bears that design decision out.

Also, looking at the pic you posted again, it looks like it’s the material of the eyeletted tab itself that has given way, and not the seam - it looks almost torn in half. If that’s the case, a rivet wouldn’t have done much good anyway - they should probably have made the tab from a different material instead.

All in all, I liked the Transit, but I did question some of Gator’s design choices, particularily regarding the fixing of the shoulder straps, so I ended up selling mine. There’s a reason Mono is so expensive, and you can usually tell where that money went.

Mono M80 for all my basses offer the best protection and are lightweight. Also have tons of storage for accessories.

Undercover Double bags. Been using them since the 90’s. Sadly they are out of business and I let too many of them go over the years. Will purchase anyone I see.
