Favorite Iron Maiden Song?

I was a HUGE Maiden fan in the 80s, worshipped them. I love every track of every one of their first four albums, favorites would be Phantom of the Opera, Innocent Exile, Where Eagles Dare, To Tame A Land, Hallowed Be Thy Name, and Prisoner.

Flight Of Icarus was the first rock song I ever learned how to play from start to finish at album speed, followed by Number Of The Beast, Wrathchild, Trooper, and then Phantom Of The Opera (whew, that was a tough one at 15-16 years old!).

One favourite song? If I really had to choose, it would likely be Hallowed, but there are so many great ones.

I always wanted to play in a Maiden tribute band back then, and could have, I knew how to play many of their songs at speed, but there was a dearth of other musicians interested enough in Maiden - lots of guitar players, but they all listened to Aerosmith, Skynnrd and Zeppelin, or shredder bands like Metallica, Satriani, etc. :rollno:

These days, I can still play Phantom, but definitely not at album speed! :)

Bruce and Adrian's writing became more dominant around PowerSlave and beyond, and I stopped listening somewhere around 1990-91. I skipped everything they did between Seventh Son and the latest, which I did pick up. I find their newest album is kind of "trying too hard." Sorry... I find it hard to listen to, but still rock out with Killers and Piece Of Mind regularly, and my kids (9&7) also like 'em.

Hmm... very hard to decide. I've always thought that the quintessential Maiden song in terms of putting all the elements of their sound and style together is "Hallowed Be Thy Name". Great song, of course, but not the one I'd pick if I had to choose just one. In such case, the winner is "The Number Of The Beast". An incredibly good and cool song to me. :bassist:

Just want to add that "Losfer Words (Big 'Orra)" is one of my all-time favorite rock instrumentals. A terrific tune that doesn't get so much recognition.

Agreed, but I prefer the "Live After Death" version, just because of the more adequate (to me) tempo. The original is so slow for my taste.

I prefer it slower- more powerful imo, and its a great 'dynamics' song for them. I saw them do this on the Powerslave tour and I thought it was wicked good, but not much more uptempo.

favorite? they were ALL my favorites until I played in a IM tribute band for 5 years, then they became routine and over-played...killed everything I had as far as "love" for all the tunes.

I will never forget the years of fantastic stage jams with the tribute band, and will never forget the songs. I have 22 of them on youtube all over my list just to "remember" the good old days....

This is slightly off topic, but still Maiden. So I went to register my 'new to me car' at the DMV the other day. The guy decides to look to see if there are plates with a 70 to match the year of the car. Waiting, my girlfriend notices some plates that have 666 on them. The DMV guy returns staing that he can't find any with 70 on them. So we ask, "What about those?". He grins and says, "I was wondering when someone was going to ask." :bassist:
So we get home and as I am putting on the plates I remember my girlfriend had put a Number of The Beast cassette in the car the other night. :D
It was meant to be... Don't ya think? :smug: (Btw, Murders in the Rue Morgue has always been one of my faves)

You should pretty much marry her. I mean, what more do you need to know at this point?
