I wanna know in which position most of the players like to play. I variate a lot between 3-4 position when playing finger style and 1 when I'm play with a pick.

Mainly 2 but I move all around depending on what dynamics I'm going for. Second favorite is probably 3.

When I had my p bass, I stayed at the 1 exclusively. Gave it the brightness I couldn't get elsewhere.

My favorite position for a P Bass is standing over it with a chainsaw and lighter fluid.

Always 2 when playing with fingers, 1 and 3 when playing with a pick.

    With fingers:
    75% in 2
    25% in 3

    With pick
    85% in 1
    7.5% in 2
    7.5% in 3

obviously just estimates but it gives me the sound i want.

I tried the 69 position with my P bass once but hated picking all those wood chips out of my teeth the next day.:D

Why limit yourself? All of them. 1 when I palm mute and pluck with thumb and forefinger. Any of them when I finger pick. 4 for Reggae or when I want a huge bottom end sound.

    That's exactly what I think.

I made this pool because I wanna know other players main position. :smug:

  16. Got tired of people calling you Woody Lee? :D

  17. Generally I play #1 or #2, But as a rule it's usually #2. Unless I'm playing #1.

Seriously though I would say 2 most of the time with my thumb resting on the pickup. Occasionally 3 if I wanted a bit mellower tone.

I stay in 3 with thumb on the pick up, unless I am playing a Black Sabbath song, in which I must play in 4. I also find myself playing in the same area on my J bass and Charvel as well...

My "multi-purpose" fingerstyle playing position is the borderline between 1 and 2.
