That's the 1st one I had heard! Everywhere on AM radio in its time.
For me, the Marvin Gaye one came later.

So many, but I've always loved "Cool Jerk" by The Capitols.

Jameson completely changed how the electric bass was played by using it as a melodic instrument and not just holding the bottom.

IMO the two songs that show this are

Darling Dear - Jackson 5

He follows the vocals up and down brilliantly and given most of the songs we're done on one to two takes.
