Updated thread info ...

Based on many responses/PM's/messages, I realize that this bass is a little "scary" to more than a few of y'all, along with being, as one message told me, "completely unnecessary" LOL! I'm willing to chat about a trade for a VERY good quality 34" scale fretless acoustic bass. Definitely not interested in standard electric basses, or anything fretted.

FBB Custom Bass fretless 7 string, custom built unlined fretless

'Price reduction to off-set these crazy shipping costs ... now $1800 + actual shipping

Body: pommelle sapele over black limba

Neck: 3 piece maple/jabota

Fingerboard: 34" zircote

Headstock: pommelle sapele

Pickups: Bartolini G67

Electronics: passive V/V/T

Hardware: Hipshot A bridge, Hipshot Ultralites

Finish: tung oil

This FBB 7 is a superior instrument in every possible way. From the detail in the construction to the incredible playability it can compete with any quality instrument. The neck is wonderful, with very low action and spot-on site dots for intonation. The bass absolutely sings when played.

I simply have too many basses for this stage of my life. I'll be 70 in a few months and I desperately need to start downsizing. I retired from music in 2017 and haven't really pursued a real gig in well over two years so I just don't need all of this stuff. And, in 2019 I contracted a viral attack that hit my heart, an implanted cardiac defibrillator now makes sure I keep ticking every day. One of the very negative effects of this heart failure is how severely it has limited my ability. With all of these considerations, I have several basses and other gear that will be for sale over the next few weeks.

PayPal is fine, shipping will be billed at the actual cost for the item. Heavy stuff (amps) or big bulk (upright basses) will be for pickup up only. I'll work with the buyer for heavy/bulky items and travel a bit for delivery, if reasonably close to North Georgia.

Shipping costs are just crazy these days ... I'd expect shipping to be at least $100, possibly more. Makes you really think about whether it's worth getting anything shipped any more.

The following are currently available:

FBB fretless 7

Brice fretless 5

SX Ursa fretted 6 (SOLD)

PJ loaded body + loaded fretted neck (SOLD)

MarkBass Combo CMD121P (SOLD)

MarkBass Traveler 151P cab (SOLD)

Meisel West German Laminated DB with accessories

JonPaul Matrix CF bow (SOLD)

Thanks! But I need no sympathies for my situation ... I've had a lifetime of playing music for a living, who can ask for more than that? And despite these restrictions, it's not over by a long shot ... all of these various electronics in my chest will hopefully keep me going for some time to come

This 7 is a great instrument ...

Dang, Ed. You're in my state and I'm getting into the market for a fretless. That's a whole lot of fretless!!

I'm working on saving up some duckets so it'll be a while yet, but if this sticks around, I might need to come up from down yonder Atlanta to check it out.

The Brice 5 sounds interesting and more accessible financially, but I found out that I can't humor 35" scale instruments. And nothing's gonna be as cool as this beast.

There is a huge world of difference between the Brice and the FBB, a "not-even-close" huge world of difference. I've not owned, or even played, anything that comes close to the FBB 7 except for my FBB 6 (which isn't for sale). It's a really truly world class instrument that will be immediately evident the moment you put your hands on it.

Not a lot of folks are looking for a 7 string, let alone an unlined 7 string, so I have a feeling it will be around for a bit yet :)

Oh man... that's tempting. I so don't need it though.

...of course last time I said that about a bass it was a 5-string Fodera that's now my main...

I have had a chance to check this bass out in person on a couple of occasions. It is truly spectacular in every way, and Ed is just a wonderful guy!
