Details

The Featherweight David Gage travel case is the lightest, most protective travel trunk available. With the bass inside, it falls well within the airlines' usual 100-pound limit and usually complies with the harsher EU restrictions now in place for excess baggage. Retails new at $3,995. Asking $2,995.
  • Made of durable Kevlar and fiberglass, the David Gage company created the Featherweight to reduce unnecessary weight without compromising its renowned durability.
  • They made the material much lighter than previous models. Advances in the molding process have allowed us to provide the same reliable shell at a much-reduced weight.
  • The Featherweight uses the same components that have made The Gage Case the most reliable travel trunk on the market. Among these are the butterfly "key-less" latches. Airport security agents can easily open and close the trunk and no longer have the excuse that they didn't understand the latching system well enough to inspect the contents securely. This improves the baggage check-in process and reduces damage to the trunk's contents.
  • White exterior to reflect ultraviolet rays, keeping instrument cool.
  • Neoprene gasket lining seated in top lip retaining trough to seal out moisture.
  • All latches and handles recessed to guard against damage.
  • Spring loaded, rubber grip, strategically placed handles that recoil below the surface of the trunk.
  • Interior fitted with unique air bag and suspension system. Each bag has two connected chambers that conform to the instrument's shape.
  • Tough rubber sling that cradles the scroll and absorbs vibration and impact.
  • Humidifier in all trunks; necessary when traveling in high altitudes and through different climates.
  • Cases designed to have padded cover over instrument while in the case, affording extra humidity and temperature protection.
  • Extremely wide wheel base at bottom of back, no tipping while going over cobblestones, rounding corners, or rushing through airports.

Hi, the Featherweight for 3/4 size uprights weighs 40 pounds. It’s 7 or 8 pounds lighter than non-featherweights. Thanks for asking.

FYI, I talked with the David Gage company in New York the other day. They said they haven’t made any significant changes to this Featherweight case in more than a decade, it has proved to be so good!
