I am going through a kind of sticker shock at the prospect of shipping some basses for sale if and when they sell. FedEx is the easiest to ship from. Since when have basses been shipping out for way over $100? A test quote for a 11 pound standard guitar/bass box from CA to Maryland was as high as $160 for standard delivery. Did a few sales through Reverb in past few years, so guess I got a good discount. Also did a sale as Amazon seller with low shipping, but Amazon does not have either bass listed on their site. Both FedEx and UPS were similar in price. I am already doing a surcharge for East of the Mississippi.

Is there not a better way to ship a bass?

The bass I shipped a month ago was a short scale, insurance included it was $115 from stl to outside Boston. Yeah I’m done shipping anything bigger than a pedal. Even that has gotten expensive

Yeah I tried shipping a pedal board a few months back that was in a 20x15x7 box and it was $57 believe. It wasn't worth selling it.

USPS Shipping - for a 4lb box to California??

jeeze, well, I mean, I drive my car between ontario and NB sometimes, I'd be happy to take a package from where I leave to where I'm going for the smallest of negotiable fees. That's a bit VERY situational. If you're not shipping terribly far, you might be able to find somebody that would normally do rideshares on a classified ads site to see if they could drop a thing off for a small fee.
