Double Bass Felix 2 coming soon

I've been thinking about getting a dual channel preamp lately - trying to decide between the EBS Stanley Clarke and the Felix. When I went to the Sweetwater site they no longer had the Felix, so I wrote to Grace Designs and lo and behold:

"The FELiX has recently been discontinued and is being replaced by the FELiX 2. I’ve attached a PDF here that will give you the details on the new unit. Sweetwater should have info. on their site soon. Pricing on the new unit will be the same as the original and we expect to begin shipping in early March."

Looks like a smaller physical footprint. Dimensions available?

Pretty sure it has the same footprint, overall dimensions are expected to be relatively unchanged in any meaningful way. I've got a bunch on order, in both colors. Looking forward to it!

...it's the little things that are such great touches on this new Felix and are potentially useful for upright: Boost defeat makes it possible to press the boost button for a solo but not boost the mic channel which might feedback if boosted, Nice. Phase adjust, between the two channels totally useful with both blending mic/pickup and pickup/pickup,excellent. FX routing and Amp Routing in stereo could be really useful if you wanted some reverb on just the mic for example or just the pickup, or you could route just one to a looper (mics don't loop well) or both to a tube preamp or so many other things, awesome. I think for sure I will sell my Felix and get the new one. If I ever become a playing player again.

The FELIX2 looks really fantastic, but I have to say that I am really happy with the EBS Stanley Clarke Preamp, especially at its price point. I’ve been feeding it directly into my Crest Prolite 2.0 >Greenboy F212 and haven’t been this happy with my sound in a while. I’ll also say that the Series/Parallel FX loop is fantastic, especially in parallel mode. Using my Eventide H9 I can dial in all sorts of useful (or just fun) sounds and the main bass signal retains my low end and character. I highly recommend giving it a spin for anyone who might not have the coin for the FeliX2.

I recently acquired one of the new Headway EDB-2 H.E.’s Since I own a Grace Felix I could compare the two, the new Headway has upped it’s game with a full dual channel EQ and 48v phantom, plus something they call a “Harmonic Enhancer” which I’ll call a character control. The H.E. enhances upper harmonics and does actually improve the sound of my Ehrlund EAP by giving it some warmth and better definition. Granted it’s subtle but the difference is audible. It can be run from two 9volt batteries.
