I want to detach these coils from the baseplate so I can line them up on a bass with narrow string spacing.

I can desolder the short black wire where it attaches to the bobbin, or I can leave it attached, desolder from the plate, and then splice in a new lead to the short wire.

The former seems to make more sense, but because I'm not certain what's going on where the short lead attaches to the bobbin, I wanted to check here. The odd thing is that i can't spot any obvious connection to the coil at that point. Could I simply desolder at the bobbin and slip in a new lead, or is there some unknown gotcha in doing that?

Thanks.
