Fender Adam Clayton CS Sig P Bass

I just have to go back to my favorite joke of all time...
Q: How many bass players does it take to play a bass line?
A: Ten. One to play the line and nine to hide behind their keyboards saying "he's lame" or "I can do that."
Well, love him or hate him, it's a simple fact - he's made an a$$ load of money playing those "lame" bass lines and you (the collective you calling him lame) have not. I'm just sayin'...

Now, I do totally agree with this comment. I've always thought most signature instruments to be WAY over priced. That said, the Steve Harris and Geddy models are pretty reasonably priced, if you're into that sort of thing...
Yup he did. I imagine this bass will be around $6,000.
Here's the deal with Adam Clayton- he's in an awesome band, and he fills the role for said band in a way that works. However, I think he is a little bit blown out of proportion.
That, and I don't really see why you need a $10k Warwick when you play almost all 16th notes.
That being said, I think this is a pretty shmexy P-Bass. I would put it in a glass case..

As Clayton's No. 1 Fan, no doubt that he's made a boat-load o' cash - or should I say, a stadium-load.
But seriously, the bloke got lucky - like winning the lottery.
There is nothing right or wrong about his crafty basslines. He's playing up to his level of proficiency -- dum, dum, dum, dum, dum, dum, dum, dum. Can't fault him for that. And yes, those virtuostic basslines work just fine - ask Lanois, if there ever was any doubt.
In fact, there SHOULD be a signature bass... just like his personal one that he dazzles the bass-world with.

If you listen to the first few U2 albums you will hear different lines than you hear on the Joshua Tree.
He may not be an extremely technical player, but I bet alot of TBers would love to be in his position both as a bassist and a successful musician. A band is more than one person it "works" because of the composition and particular qualities of its parts. U2 would not be the same without Clayton's style.
As to the bass its a bit flashy for my taste.

The only issue I have with this bass is in about 6 months there will be another Adam Clayton Signature Bass made by.....Fill in the blanks..

I'm not a huge Clayton fan, but if he didn't play those "lame" lines, they would surely find some other guy to stand there and play the EXACT same bass parts because U2 wants the song to sound that way.
You think many hitmakers that are in the back of a band (drums/bass) like U2 really get a huge amount of say in what's really written? Do most of them even play on their own CD's nowadays, or are they there as the face of the band? I've always seen U2 as Bono/Edge, and the other players just filling in the gaps, so if Clayton didn't play with his style and took away from Edge's simplicity as a guitar player, they would ditch him and find a guy to stand there and play the E string all night no questions asked.
And to everyone saying it's lame, would you rather play something mind-blowing to a sold out crowd, or feel the energy of a packed stadium?
And lastly, on the bass, nice finish! Would never own one (because of the $$ alone), but a cool looking bass all the same.

The Joshua Tree album is great, October is not bad, they have quite many iconic tunes. While Adam is no Squire, he still played some nice bass lines, simple but recognizeable! The With or without you bass line is so simple but many will know the song only by listening to the bass line. Simple good stuff.
I have a few U2 vinyls right here , i never said they didnt make some ok tunes , but the fender ad says one of the greatest bands , pfff . No way is u2 one of the greatest bands. I dont think anything they made the last 10 years is worth a listen.
Its just funny , most of the people in this thread would rip on Mark Hoppus , who over all has played alot more complex stuff and sings.
word. Hoppus is definitely more talented than Clayton, even though hes abit sloppy during lives, he sings pretty decent lead and has more stage presence.
Sure, Adam Clayton is by no means a horrible bassist and he serves his role in the band well enough. But I believe there're a ton of bassists who can easily fill his shoes. Granted I haven't heard alot of U2 songs, but I havent heard much from him other than straight eighth root notes and riffs doubling the guitar.
Not saying he should start tapping or shredding with U2, but sometimes a neat little fill or syncopation would be nice....
Really, does every bassists has to be frickin' "technical" to be recognized as bassists? This is like saying Pop music is bad, or only Jazz (or whatever genre) is a real music.
And, over 150 million records sold is qualified as one of the greatest bands.

I think the whole idea is that, he's not considered a "groundbreaking" bassist to have his own limited edition CS bass.

I liked 2 hearts beat as one , i dug the bass in that song.
As for the greatest band in the world , i wouldnt just judge that by how many records sold.
Sorry but u2 wont ever be as great as led zep or the who to me.
