Fender American jazz or Geddy Lee?

This is a complete side note: In the great(ly expensive) Southern Land, the geddy has a rrp of 2000 although the sicker at my music shop says 1600. The american fender goes for 2500-3000. Just nice and inconisitant.

As for your decision, do what everyone else said

I agree as well.

I've been playing for 2 years and I still have a Squier P bass. I'm not a huge fan of the color, the tuners, the electronics, and intonation, but It's my bass and it works for me.

I think 8 weeks is not enough to discover a bass fully, let alone decide this after playing for the same amount of time. 6 months into playing I still didn't know what a good bass felt like, even after playing many.

Honestly I think it was a waste of money to buy the American bass. You don't need a new bass because you don't like the tuning pegs and pickups. All you need is a well set up decent instrument that you can learn on. If I were you, I'd have used that $900 to buy myself almost a years' worth of quality lessons once a week.

Now that you've got 2 fantastic basses, go and learn how to play them well!

I have been playing the drums since I was 8 and now I'm 48. So I been around music most of my life and play diffrant bass's of friends but 8 weeks ago I want my own and did so. I've been playing every night atleast 1-5 hours a night and I mean everynight. I really engoy it and have been like a kid in a candy store when I play. I have also been getting some help from a friend that has been recording for over 35 years on the bass. But for the most part I'm self teaching myself amd enjoying it. As for the bass's I did play both tonight and they have 2 differant sounds, feels.

Welcome to the land o' bass. I just made a not so similar decision, I was deciding against the Marcus Miller Sig J-bass and the MIA P-bass. I ended up going for the Pbass because it was more justified for the music I play.

Enjoy your fender, I've been playing mine every free moment since I got it less than a week ago. And I hope your son enjoys playing as well.

Do you only tune up to pitch or do you also tune down? If you tune down you leave slack in the gears and they go a bit flat. Even the worst tuners can keep a bass in tune.

Well, the American standard Jazz basses felt a lot better to me than the Geddy. But if you like the feel of your bass just get new tuners - although I can't imagine they're that bad? As Bob said tune up, not down.

Give the pickups some time, you may like the sound. If you really find it could use better pickups - so be it, they don't cost that much.

I'll bet dollars to doughnuts he prefers the USA Fender by a fairly large margin.

Is the USA one the red one? I think the Geddy looks great with the blocks and all, and it's a great bass, but a red USA Fender Jazz is on the next level (IMO of course).

You should post pics of both. We kind of have a rule, no pictures no bass. ;)
