Fender Bass Indentification Help, Please!

Can anyone tell me what year, model, approxiamate value, and any other info on this Fender Bass? I went to the fender site but only got lost and confused.

1991 Fender Prodigy. No idea on the value.

You can date Fenders by the serial number.
S=70's, E=80's, N=90's, Z=00's
The second digit indicates exactly which year. N1... = '91

1991 Fender Prodigy. No idea on the value.

Beyond that it looks like P/J with a Jazz type neck.

It's a Prodigy...just like it says on the headstock

As Marcury said, the pickup configuration is P/J (a Precision pup and a Jazz pup) and it has a Jazz-width neck (1-1/2" at the nut). Basically, the Prodigy is a combination of features found on P and J basses - plus a dash of early-90's styling.

A few specs from a old Frontline magazine on this rare Fender:

(USA) The bass version of Fender's Prodigy guitar. Body: Poplar; Neck: Rosewood fretboard, 20 frets, 7.25" radius; Electronics: 1 P-bass (split-coil) pu, 1 J-bass pu, Master Volume, Pan, Bass boost/cut, Treble boost/cut; Chrome plated hardware.

The eBay auction has a price of $799 or best offer.

If it sounds good, and plays well, rock that thing!!!

Are you talking about the Alembic electronics? I don't think that's an upgrade. Other comments I found about the Prodigy basses also mentioned an Alembic preamp.

Here's the listing...Fender Prodigy Bass. It looks like they've dropped the BIN price to $749.

Commonly used abbreviations to become familiar with - particularly with Fender instruments...
MIA = Made in America
MIM = Made in Mexico
CIJ = Crafted in Japan / MIJ = Made in Japan (Instruments made at Fender Japan's factory have been marked as "Crafted in Japan" since '97. Prior to '97 they were marked as "Made in Japan")
