Added TV Jones to my Stylist as well. Sorry for the derail, OP!2) Dean "Cabbie" bass in which I installed Gretsch Filtertrons. Good sound, end of project.

IMHO, there are two kinds of modifications: Reversible and IrreversibleI'm a self professed tinkerer and I thought it was interesting that this is the only bass I have never wanted to mod (apart from vintage stuff). Its great the way it is. Its a plain old '09 American jazz. I for some strange reason tried to sell it once and didn't get an offer over $500 USD for it. Anybody have something like this?

Makes sense. J is a multi-tone bass, so invites a bit of custom sound building. And it's also been at the vanguard of changing music styles and tones: rounds, slap, scooped 80s etc. The P keeps doing what it does so well.Interesting how most of the posts in this thread are J's rather than P's. As for me, my J (2002 MIM Classic 60's) is also perfect as is, and I've never modded it aside from cosmetically (swapped between a few different pickguards), and never been tempted to.
Beautiful! I had an identical right handed '78.This is the left-handed 1980 Fender Jazz Bass I bought from a friend who inherited it from his late father who had bought it new in the early 1980s. I never met the first owner, but I was told he had been proud of having kept it unmodded through the decades.
And when making the deal I promised to keep the bass stock, an easy promise to keep as it really doesn't need any mods, it is a great bass. And as it has survived 44 years in 100% stock condition I certainly don't want to be the one to mess it up!

Thanks! This has a S8 serial number which would suggest 1978, but when I opened it up the pickup bottom stamps and pot codes were all from 1980, so a 1980 it is. Matching serial number sticker in the neck pocket.Beautiful! I had an identical right handed '78.
