Fender Blacktop Club

And those are from an 8 year old kit lens attached to a similar vintage 8 year old camera. Nothing fancy.

I'll never disrespect a camera for being a bit "long in the tooth". I bought a fully-manual Minolta back in '86 for my first photography class. Twenty-five years of off-and-on use and it still took beautiful pics. I'll bet it'd still deliver the goods if I were to dig it up and go to town with it.

I am not a number, I am a free man!

What is the significance of the number anyway?

So that Malak can track your every move and make sure that you absolutely conform to the ways of the Blacktop, once you are a number you may never have your freedom.."We are Borg, ehm, I mean, Blacktop"..OR just for fun and bragging rights... ;)

Hey T., I didn't see you ask for a number. Post a pic and I'll fix you up.

Thank you!

I wet sanded the body and pg down to flat black, installed a 1 meg vol with blend and a .022 cap for that gurgle and GROWL when the tone is rolled off (try it!). The tone also has a pull switch with a passive germanium fuzz diode. I sold the blacktop bridge and put on a precision neck. Tone monster.

Hey everyone--Just purchased a Blacktop Jazz bass and read through this thread because of the volume knob/tone issues. My BT J has the same issues: volume knob is essentially "On/Off" rather than a gradual control; tone knob similarly limited range. In addition, bridge pu is quite a bit quieter than the neck pu.

Would you guys just recommend I get a proper set up and have the connections re-soldered, or are there any internal components that need outright replacement? I'm not quite sure what to look for or ask for. It seems to have great bones, plays so great and has a wonderful sound unplugged, but I'm afraid I don't get too much tweakability when plugged in. It's reasonable to expect a volume knob to make a full range attenuation, right? I'm a long time guitar player who rarely uses the volume knob to sculpt sound; seems like in the bass world that's more of a regular thing. Love to be able to truly blend these two pickups.

Every time I play with my fingers, when my fingers smack into the fret board I get a little buzz of static. Pretty sure this is the run of the mill static electricity problem others have had, but anyone had something similar?

Too apathetic to take the pickguard off and look at wires.

Is it fair to assume these are MIM instruments, based on their price, approx. $540 CDN?

Seriously interested in the Blacktop Jazz. Twin P's, jazz body. Sounds great from what I've heard so far and the price is right. I'd definitely swap to a neck with a wider nut though.

MIM, yes.

I've been tossing around the idea of picking up an aftermarket neck in maple with a P profile.

That's pretty much the same idea I was having. Maple, P profile/nut width. It was one I was considering solely on its price, and the fact it had twin P's in it. No where has them in stock though. Hopefully by the time I have sold my SUB and saved the difference, I can find one to at least try out when I buy my new Precision bass.

Hey everyone. This is my first post on TB. I have been a lurker for quite some time and have decided to finally join the community. I picked up this beauty today and like jg42, this too is my first real fender bass and I couldn't be happier with the decision. I'm in low frequency heaven!
