Looks like that splinter came off during manufacturing. I don't think it will grow into anything to worry about...there's plenty more wood where that came from...
Maybe someone who didn't know what they were doing was messing around with the micro tilt. I don't think there is anything to get worse or it would have done so already. Not an easy fix either unless you have a router or can accurately chisel a cavity to be filled in.
