Wow, absolutely beautiful! ?

Thanks!

Do you like it better than the AV '57 Reissue of yours?

Sometimes yes and sometimes no, depends on what tone I'm in the mood for. The AV '57 had a little more mid-presence, very "airy" sounding, while the CS '59 a little more low-end, a little "darker" sounding. Both are similar since both are split coil Precisions, but there is tonal difference between them and I like having variety.

Thanks!

do you found ever a bass from another company which you can compare to the 59s? I'm in a 59s relic, but I don't like o spend so much money for bass. I have a few basses in this quality class, none of them was as expensive as the 59 CS.

Mastermold,

I would love to hear your comments on the tone of your 55 in comparison to the 59. I have been interested in the 55 but have not had the chance to play one. I currently own a 59 and love it but have been search for that really throaty P bass tone. Just wondering if the 55 captures that?

Single coil Precisions have a different tone than split coil. They are more percussive, not as warm, and the notes are more airy sounding but kick you in the chest like a mule when fit with a good set of flatwound strings! "Throaty" is perhaps one way to describe it. There is a growl to the notes somewhat like a Jazz bass, but punchier. I'm told the punch or percussive nature of the notes stems from the pickup having only one pole under each string.

So yeah the 55 has all that. Mine is a wonderful bass, extremely light (the guy I bought it from said it was 8 lbs but it feels even lighter to me), and has everything I wanted from this kind of bass. Likewise, the 59 gives me what I wanted from a split coil Precision.

I should add that I also have a Fender CIJ '51 reissue that sounds nearly as good, and these are easier to find and much cheaper to buy. If you're looking to "try out" a single coil without spending a grip on a CS you may want to check these out first.
