Fender Custom Shop prices are SOARING!

No instrument in the world I would pay $10,000 for, let alone a "nothing too crazy" spec sheet like that
Yeah sounds like it. But still too much for a reissue, CS or not. I'd rather get a real one from a good vintage dealer.
I can believe 4k for a fender custom shop. There’s something about an instrument that is built to that spec
but with that, EVERY bass is different. I’m sure there are custom shop basses out there that just don’t resonate well. Some that just don’t have that magic.
I believe you have a smaller chance of that happening when you go with an instrument like that (or something like a moollon Sadowsky, lull etc) but I sold a moollon J that just would not vibrate no matter what I did with it. Strings tunings setup nothing helped.
I can’t imagine taking a 10,000 risk on a bass to find out it’s no better than a production line.

I think your question answers itself: They're backed up for 2 years. They can sell them faster than they can make them so putting the price up will reduce demand until it matches supply.
normally increasing price increases unit profit, but reduces the number of units you sell so doubling the price might still make more in total but probably not double. If demand is so high that I can't keep up, then reducing demand to a level I can keep up with by increasing the price is pure profit.
Evil capitalism? Sure, but if I was turning away bookings for my band because I was fully booked, then I'd put the price up too.

I always feel the same when I see Crips (Chips for you Americans!) described as hand-cooked. There's hot oil involved - use some find of basket or slotted spoon!!!
I think they as a brand could be at the commersial peak right now. Electronical music is becoming the norm, gig opportunities seem to be in a decline, many Fenders are sold to boomers, getting their 15:th Fender.

Capitalism is not "evil". How could it be? I offer something you want, you are willing to pay an amount I accept, we trade, and we are both better off.

It’s the end of the month, so I guess it’s time for another “Fender Custom Shop isn’t worth the money” thread…this is getting played out..anyway, that’s gotta be a Masterbuilt quote…they start at a little over $6k…those options are all Teambuilt options with the exception MAYBE being the ebony board…I know FCS has a point with the options where certain ones are only available on the Masterbuilt level for some reason.. I got a P bass quote from FCS a month or so ago and my specs were a bit more involved and my quote was half of what the OP was quoted….go back to that dealer (or find another dealer who will take time to properly explore options with you) and inquire about a Teambuild…if you want an FCS, get one…they’re worth paying quite a bit for, IMO….while buying a Warmoth or a G&L or whatever isn’t a bad option, anyone telling you they are better basses is crazy..
Any place I’d feel comfortable walking into. If a place is so dangerous and hazardous that you fear for your bass, maybe you shouldn’t be playing there.
Everyone has a limit. Whatever it is, be at peace with it.
I got mine in 2020 for about 3800. They said it would be a 9 month wait but it was more like 5. Definitely a keeper.
I am sorry, but your last statement is sort of baloney. There are so many threads and evidence about disappointed owners of US made Fenders, it is not even funny. And that included Custom Shop ones. When I try any Fender bass, I set my expectations accordingly (low), and I still get surprised at what duds they occssionally ship. Not talking about the magical setup, but paint flaws, green wood, unshielded electronics, necks that need shimming due to pocket being machined too deep, incorrectly cut nuts, dead (no resonanse) basses, warped necks, and so on.
As for competition, I do not see much complaint about G&L, Läkland, and for Sandberg, none, IIRC. Not a Fender hater at all, on the contrary, but I really wish they would step up, and deliver consistent quality.
I have no problem with a price for a Fender CS bass, but the price INCREASE is remakable.

So most of this is off base honestly. Clearly you don’t feel that FCS is worth the price. But I’m sure you feel something else is, and that’s fine.
Mostly you’re wrong about the price increase. The OP did something ti trigger a Masterbuilt quote. I am positive of it.
