I think it's the current (bad) economy more than anything else.

I have a good friend who owned a really nice local music store that had been in business for 38 years. His business declined so much in 2009-2010 that he finally had to shut down and file bankruptcy.

There is so much gear for sale here on TB and elsewhere, that supply far exceeds demand. Economics in action.

No problem on my end if this bass doesn't sell now as I was just trying to move a couple of nice but affordable pieces. I'm saving the higher end stuff for when the economy improves.

I'm an old geezer. Now I have some hand flexor tendon issues and within a couple of months will have had three surgeries in two years which will pretty much end my live playing days...so I just don't need eight basses and five bass amps any longer. And, my GAS tank is finally empty!

I'm sorry about your hand issues. I'm a geeze too, and thankful for any day that I can play the bass. I am trying to decide what will stop me; neck and back pain, knee pain, or asthma. Ha! How rock and roll!

I wish I could buy your bass, I currently don't have a white one!

What cracks me up is that I never thought that I'd be one of those old guys who sat around talking about his aches and pains.

I play rhythm guitar in the band I'm currently in and that gets pretty painful. But I played a bass gig in Nashville a couple weekends ago - no problem at all with that. That's good as I much prefer playimg bass. As soon as I go in for the final (I hope) hand surgery in September, no more bands for me. But I really don't mind that as I've been playing in bands since 1964. Yikes!

So, now that I've hijacked my own thread, somebody please buy this bass. It is a really good one with some very nice upgrades!

I doubt that there is a better deal on TalkBass right now for a real Fender bass with some very cool upgrades. And a vintage '80's Fender case.

I took this bass and my 1965 Precision to a studio gig a couple months ago. The engineer asked me to use this one as he felt that it recorded better.

It has a KILLER neck profile and the active EQ on this bass is very useful with the Quarter Pounders. You will not be disappointed. It is a little heavier than some of these I"ve played but that probably explains why it sustains so nicely.

Sunday bump

Do these pickups have raised pole pieces like the stock noiseless ones? If not, is the sound level consistent across all strings?

The string balance on this bass is perfect to my ears. I'm very sensitive to this as I sold a high-dollar Martin and a Breedlove ABG because of poor string balance. The A string on both basses was noticeably louder than the other strings. Both had Fishman preamps and neither me nor my local bass guru could solve the problem.

The active EQ on this bass really seems to help. I generally don't care for active basses, have had a few over the years and this MIM Jazz Bass is the best of all of them, including a Music Man Sting Ray I bought new back in 1978.

By the way, the SJB-3 pickups on this bass are passive; the preamp is for the 3-band EQ.
