Fender Expertise Needed

A store locally here has a Fretless Jazz 4 string, it was marked $1499 ,i can get it for 1170 .It is a late 2001 or early 2002- Its brand new . with hard case and goodies. they have a call into fender to get all the spec's on it . It is a white that you can see through - Fender said it was a limited run of White Blonde. So what do you guru's think. is that a good deal -is it a good year or one to stay away from. i believe from watching this site that there are a lot of you guys that know your stuff about these things and i am relying on some feedback before i just blindly buy it... to me it seems great - but i have only been playing for a year . Thanks in advance

my buddy's got that exact bass - 2001 white blonde fretless jazz bass. premium ash body and rosewood board. it's a great bass, pretty light, tons of growl, and the neck feels amazing. brand new... that's a great price. i'm looking for an american fretless at the moment, too. not many around the used market and new fenders just keep going up in price. i think the fact that much fewer fretless basses are made could correlate with a higher quality control, or at least i'd hope so. haven't played a bad one, i can tell you that.
