Fender Fullerton Precision Uke bass

I got my puke bass a couple weeks ago! Really enjoying it so far. It's always in arm's reach as the perfect noodle bass. I took it to an out of state retreat road trip and through Garage Band on my iPad with a portable party speaker it was the perfect complement to a few acoustic guitars and a cajon for some jam sessions.

I had a hard time with the case/bag. Everything on the market is at least a half inch too short for the abnormal headstock configuration (for a uke bass.) I ended up with a 3/4 classical guitar gig bag. The classical size means there's enough extra room in the case for some extra cushioning, so for the road trip I cut a piece of 1/8" MDF sheet to the shape of the back panel of the case, and wrapped that in a small blanket. Voila, more structure and more cushioning but still lightweight.

Very cool! I'll buy one. I own three Kala U-basses and love them. While ergonomically they are very different than a normal bass, sound quality would work with any rock gig I've ever played. I'd imagine these will be in the same ballpark. Everyone who hears one of my lil' U-basses is blown away by the tone. Just like with these, I only use nickel wrapped nylon core strings. Wouldn't touch those rubber band strings, though some people love them.
Nickel Wrapped Nylon Core strings? Where can we find replacement strings? Fender doesn't even sell replacement strings for this particular UBass.

Finding replacement strings for the Fender Fullerton Precision Bass Ukulele is actually pretty easy. They can be Metal Wound Bass Ukulele strings that have a Nylon Core like these Gold Tone MBLNS Strings.

About 10 years ago I used to see a lot of fretless bass ukes in the style of Ashbory. Now they're almost all fretted, and I assume that it's beginning to develop into its own full-fledged instrument? I'm still interested in a fretless solidbody, though.
