Fender grey bottom used until?

when did fender use the grey bottoms until? i have heard 79'

Fender used the gray flatwork from March 1964 until 1971. Then they switched to a darker gray and black flatwork.

I have a P bass pickup from '74 with the darker gray flatwork. I don't know when they stopped using that entirely and went to black.

I was just seeing if anyone had some info. From what I gathered they did untill 79'. But I was just looking for confirmation

Are you trying to date a pickup? They should have date stamps.
