If gold plating was affected by sweat then it probably wasn't gold. Real gold is a very stable metal that doesn't react with anything or oxidize.

I know all that, but...
The gold doesn’t oxidize, but it’s often so thin that the underlying metal isn’t protected - it oxidizes, then the thin gold flash on top is unsupported, and it flakes off.
Yep - the gold plated parts that I’ve had on guitars were expensive and poorly plated, which soured me on the concept. You pay extra money for good appearance, and a year later it’s a visual train wreck. There may be better plated parts nowadays, I don’t know, Just know it’s not guaranteed that the appearance you pay for will be there for long.

However, I'm no fan of sunburst on ANY bass. Traditional sunburst has been almost as overdone as black in the history of bass manufacturing. Just tiresome to me.
I'm all about colors, solid in the least and multiple colors if you get creative.
But to each his own.

If I were the man at Fender I'd fix the thing that has needed fixing for over 60 years, those crappy bridges. There's reason there is a cottage industry built around upgrade replacement Fender P and J bridges. Maybe I'd take $5 from the next $100 price hike and up the bridge to match the quality of the rest of the instrument. Just saying. After that I'd be open to color palette. But alas, I am not in charge. Seafoam with a navy racer stripe on a diagonal on the topside?

I like the sunburst, but would rather have a parchment or mint pickguard, maybe anodized metal - the MOP doesn’t look great here
Haha I was much more offended by the pau ferro fingerboard. I know it’s been beat to death already, but I really dislike the light pau ferro. I have seen some darker boards, and that is more what I am into. Or full maple. I can live with the guard but I don’t love it. Gold anodized would’ve been kind of cool.
Our band's frontman's AmPerformer Mustang rocks in sunburst, and it has a J pickup by the bridge, so take that!
I personally think the sunburst is nice. I don’t need a Mustang personally because my Traveler TB-4P with the Mustang-style pickup fills that need—but boy do people love their Mustangs and I can see why. Sonically and feel-wise they are hard to beat!
I see the whole Vintera line as a hit-it-out-of-the-park bonanza for Fender. IMHO these are some of the best instruments to ever come out of the Ensenada factory. I am delighted!
