Fender Highway 1 Jazz Bass

Here's how mine looks today after buying it new in '03.

A few mods over the years.
"TUSQ" nut and bridge saddles.
Goto vintage style reverse tuners.
Gotoh bridge.
removed pick-guard.
strap-locks.
roller string-tree.
Most recently SD "Hot" for jazz single coil pickups.

Still have less than 800 bucks in it even with the modifications!

I've played this bass every day since I got it.
Its been up and down the road several times..never let me down.

in this case I understand you, as for me I don´t like to boost up lows, I pretty much prefer to low down highs so I really like this pot feature (recording and mixing experience)

Probably so, I tend to run my rig eq' ed with the low slightly cut, mid slightly boosted, and high a little more than slightly cut anyway, so it may be the greasebucket is comfortable there. It sure let's me adjust on the fly well.

John, did you notice a tonal difference without the pick guard or is that strictly an aesthetic thing? Also, "roller string-tree"?

P.S. I'm diggin' the road (thumb) wear above the p'ups!

I've got an '08 HW-One. I played some MIM, some MIA, and some CIJ at my local store. Of what they had, the HW-One sounded and felt the best. The neck is crazy fast. The pups sound great. It really is a great instrument...honestly for the money (I payed $475 new for mine) it can't be beat.

I noticed a BIG difference..Really opened-up the tone.
Kinda like taking the duct-tape off of a drum head.
I didn' care for the look of the white PG anyway.:D

Mines a standard series, not a HWY1. I just thought the extra money wasnt worth it, so i bought the Mexi standard.

They didnt feel any different, and THATS the reason why i didnt spend the extra. i was dissapointed to be honest! :hmm:

My HW-one has no skunk stripe in the neck, don't know the year but ti says made in the USA on the back. I think the HW-ones were also meant to have a fender logo from a certain era... not sure tho.

the fender sight says the HW-one has:
2 Standard Vintage Alnico Magnet Jazz Bass Single-Coil Pickups
and:
‘70s Headstock Logo,

While the usa standard has: 2 American Standard Jazz Bass Single-Coil Pickups

just a few differences that the specs point out

I have had my 06 NOS Highway One for about a year, and it's definitely my favorite player. I pimped it a bit with a white pearl pickguard and matching knobbage. If you really want your H-One to sing, try some R. Cocco Stainless Rounds. They sound awesome and maintaing their tone longer than most of the "big name" brands.

The only other thing I'd change is to get a bound and blocked neck which is a bit chunkier. Those are the ones on the 70's Classic Fender Jazz Basses.

Too right. That patch started to appear just a few months after me buying it.
Its just the top layer though, the wood still has a coating on it, just no paint.
This was the one big reason i sold my HW-one P. I had it in Black and while none of the paint came off i thought i should get rid of it before it did start to wear off and devalue it.
There was a real reason but the above one made selling it quickly a priority.
