I'm looking to mod my mustang bass to include a humbucker in there for a deeper, fuller tone. Ideally I'd be able to get a punchy midrange with some simple eq.

Is the Fender Pawn Shop Mustang Humbucker or a Dimarzio Model One the better fit? I believe both are 4 conductor, so there's a variety of tones, just trying to figure out which one will hit the spot... or if i should just get them both and conduct an expensive experiment (then sell the loser).

Thanks!

I wouldn't use either. I would use a pickup like the soapbar in another one of the Mustang bass variants (I can't remember the artist's name on the model) and use a 500kohm linear tone pot to a .1 capacitor to get the option of the dub while keeping the flexibility of the full range and everything in between.

I'm planning to put in 500k volume and tone pots, one with a push pull for series/parallel switching

Good call on the cap, would a resistor be useful for a treble bleed? I don't use the volume to clean up my tone since I only play clean.
