Fender Jazz 24

Its been a while, 2011 actually when my Fender Jazz 24 Korean made bass preamp died. At the time I spent a lot of time researching fixes for this, and got a lot of advice. Back then I purchased a SD 2 band EQ preamp as the solution. The repair never happened as I moved onto other bass guitars, so not im going to finish the repair and close the book on this. I saw a few posts from 2013 about this bass and the DD BEQ-3 preamp, so was hoping there may be new info available.

Thanks. Obviously I have a brain and contacted the manufacture/distributer first. Having no success there, I reached out to this community. I can safely say if anyone needs advice on bass electronics I'll give it freely, do nothing, but I won't be so condescending as to give the address of the company. It's the equivalent of giving out the Address of Apple in Cupertino on some iPad forum. So you clearly miss the point. Good night sir.

especially since even if you got the thing new the warranty on electronic parts is only a year.

i knew before even clicking on the thread that it was about the preamp dying, i've seen lots of them do that. i think it was a thing where putting the battery in backwards quickly blew up the little circuit card.

i haven't tried the duncan pre in these, but the ones i've fixed by throwing in the EMG BTS control and modding the little toggle switch for true bypass sound really good, especially when wired to 18V.

I don't think he meant to be condescending, a whole lot of people on TB don't seem to know they can contact Fender. I've gotten everything from great help to no response when I have contacted them. I can't tell from your post if you are back to trying to repair the the original preamp or not. If so, posting some clear photos of the top and bottom of the circuit board might let some of us offer some suggestions. These things are seldom so complex that an electronics hobbyist cannot repair them.

Wasnt trying to be condesending. I havent been to their website in a while and used to they only showed their email address. I had to look at their warranty on the website to get the phone number. I actually thought I was helping here but thankyou I now know I was condesending and thought you didnt have a brain

I had one of those basses. It had a URetro 01 Deluxe in it.. It was killer.

If I were you I would do one of two things to that bass...

.. and move on. If you like the overall ergonomics of the bass then just replace the pre amp. The bass itself is solid and even the stock Duncan Designed pups are quite decent. Then sell the bass.

If you don't want to spend that money then do this:

Bassmods 34MSAP $85.95

.. or sell the bass with a bad preamp as a modding platform. They make decent enough modding platforms.

i recall these using real duncan QP jazz pickups, not the cheaper "designed" stuff. (the QPs struck me as an odd choice for a "modern" active bass, but they do sound good.)

I saw this thread when I was looking for help with my Jazz 24 so if there are any future readers:

I put the battery in backwards and fried the preamp. Soldering a new opamp (TC062) onto the preamp circuit board fixed it.
